Sarah Palin: OMFG!

The pick of Sarah Palin to be a VP candidate demonstrates just how stupid the US population has become.

This women is anti-science, anti-choice, and a liar (got herself elected by claiming to be ethical, now being investigated because she's unethical).

She is also a dominionist. For those of you who don't know, these are batshit insane Christians who think that because God gave Christians "dominion" over the Earth, that they can do whatever the hell they want. In particular, what they want to do is to suspend the Constitution of the USA and impose "Biblical Law" in its place. That's right, they want to impose their beliefs on everyone (for their own good of course) whether you believe in their religion, another religion, or no religion.

These people are crazy: Read this article on Joel's Army to learn more.

So, great choice, McCain! Thanks so much. The days of you being against pandering to the Christian Right are truly truly dead.

Ken

P.S. How do you know that your VP pick is inexperienced? When Fox News asserts that she HAS experience because Alaska is so close to Russia. Oh please, stop, I would have laughed until I cried when I saw that article, if she wasn't also a batshit insane dominionist! That's just scary, not funny.

Hope

Tonight, Barack Obama gave the speech that America needed to hear.

I want this man to be our next President; I want my children to grow up under his leadership for the next eight years!

Now its up to us: we need to elect him. We need to ensure that the Republicans can't steal this next election the way they stole the last two. No more Diebold accidents (whoops, we just lost a ton of votes, oh well). No more Republican aides being flown down to Florida to disrupt recounts. No more Republican collusion with police departments to target "get out the vote" drives by organizations made up of underrepresented minorities. We need to be on the look out for all such activities and crush them as they happen.

We need to ignore the inevitable fear mongering that soon will saturate he air waves, put there by that slime ball Karl Rove and his unscrupulous minions.

We need to stand up as one Nation and, like Obama said tonight, say ENOUGH!

November can't come quickly enough; I can't wait to cast my vote for Barack Obama!

On the Subject of Cool Designs for Parking Structures

Not a very common subject, I know, but I love this design for a parking structure created by Axel Peemöller.

Awesome!

Darwin Exposed: At Last the Evidence that Creationists Need!

Nicely done satire that attacks the "reasoning" that Creationists need to claim that Hitler did what he did because he was influenced by Darwin's Theory of Evolution.

Read it for yourself at Darwin Exposed!

Enjoy,

Birthday Cake!

My sister-in-law, Callie, is an excellent cook. For my birthday yesterday, she surprised me by baking me a cake and dropping it off while I was at work!

We all had a slice after dinner last night and it was delicious!

What a great way to wrap up an excellent birthday... time to start work on turning 41.

40 Trips Around the Sun

Today I completed my 40th trip around the sun! The last time I marked this day on my blog was two years ago when I turned 38. So, seeing that I missed my birthday last year (who cares about turning 39?), I thought I should be sure to post today.

I had a good time celebrating my birthday with Leysia, Max, Lilja and Miles this past Friday. We went to Zolos and I had what I consider a perfect night by ordering their "top shelf" margarita, chips and guac, their chicken enchiladas, and a slice of banana cream pie for dessert.

If you're ever in Boulder, I highly recommend Zolos and that particular combination of items!

How does it feel to be 40? Sobering! Most of my grandparents lived into their 90s, meaning if all goes well, in about 5 years, I'll have reached the half way point of my life! :-)

I'll do my best to enjoy myself until then and then I'll issue a report about my mid-life crisis! :-)

Oh, so how will I be spending my birthday today? With the first day of Fall semester at CU. Sigh.

Oh well... but I promise to sneak in some fun throughout the day!

Take care and enjoy!

A Letter From Lilja

Here is a letter that Lilja wrote to Leysia and me last year while she was a Snow Lion at Alaya Preschool. The story behind this is that she was apparently missing the two of us, so her teacher, Tessa, asked if she wanted to dictate a letter to us. Lilja said "yes" and the text below is the result. I would have posted this earlier but the letter has been proudly occupying a space on our refrigerator for the last few months!

Love Mama and Papalapa,

I'm gonna come home and give my Papalapa and Mom a kiss.

I'm gonna show you how to do a butterfly.

You have different eyes than me.

Papa has a big hole in his head.

Lilja

:-)

Ken

P.S. Lilja was just shy of four and a half when she dictated this letter.

How Many Mansions Does McCain Own?

The answer is located here: McCain's Mansions. Or watch the video below.

The kicker is that when McCain was asked this question yesterday, he said "I think - I'll have my staff get to you. It's condominiums where - I'll have them get to you."

He stumbled because he didn't want the low to mid-class republicans that he's trying to dupe into voting for him to know that while they are struggling to make ends meet with rising gas/food/(and soon) heating prices, McCain owns 10 multi-million dollar homes.

I wish McCain's lower- and middle-class supporters would wake up and discover who the real elitist is!

Rush Limbaugh is a Despicable Human Being

Rush Limbaugh demonstrated how truly despicable he is on August 12th, not only showing that he is anti-intellectual and sexist but also a member of the "blame the victim" crowd by saying that Elizabeth Edwards is to blame for her husband John Edwards cheating on her!

Check out the details on Media Matters.

What a jerk.

Steven Erikson is a Genius

Don't believe me?

Start reading his Malazan Book of the Fallen series.

I'm on book two and he's the first author I've encountered that continually raises his game, often time from one section of a chapter to the next.

The amount of planning that went into this story is staggering and the story is simply amazing.

Also amazing: whenever I attempt to list my favorite characters from this story, I end up mentioning most of them. They are all terrific, with wonderful names like Tattersail, WhiskeyJack, Quick Ben, and Fiddler.

The best part? I've got eight more books to enjoy after I finish book two!

What the Heck

Today, I've decided to start listening to the audiobook edition of John Hodgman's The Areas of My Expertise.

The audiobook comes in three parts with each part lasting (according to iTunes):

Part One: 2 h 21 m 15 s
Part Two: 2 h 25 m 02 s
Part Three: 2 h 11 m 16 s

I've listened to the first 18 minutes (and 37 seconds) of Part 1 and its really really funny.

I'll report back when I'm done.
