767 Billion Dollars

The Secretary of Defense has just asked for 190 billion dollars in new funding for the War on Terrorism. The War on Terrorism is just like the War on Drugs. We had a War on Drugs and now there is no more drugs. So, soon (any day now!), we'll have no more terrorism!

Anyway, if the 190 billion is approved, then that brings the total spent on this war to 767 billion dollars. That's right, within shooting distance of 1 TRILLION dollars.

So, now when the Republicans tell me that we can't have a universal healthcare system in this country because "it would cost too much"... I just laugh at them. Apparently, we had 767 billion dollars lying around just waiting to be spent on something... now we choose to spend that money on killing people, why couldn't we have spent it on universal healthcare? I would have much preferred that option.

Sigh, almost 1 TRILLION dollars completely wasted. Every American should be ashamed.

Is the World Flat?

No wonder people have problems believing in evolution, some people haven't made it past the question:

"Is the World Flat?"

Stunning... and its people like this who insist on "home schooling" their children. Its seems they want to make sure that their children are insulated from "facts". Facts are, after all, very harmful.

A Quartet of Quotes

The quotations of the day RSS feed had a great selection of quotes on September 13, 2007.

Sir Winston Churchill: "I am prepared to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."

Mark Twain: "Most people are bothered by those passages of Scripture they do not understand, but the passages that bother me are those I do understand."

Jean Giraudoux: "The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that you've got it made."

Scott Adams: "If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?"

It might just be me, but I was struck with how a random number generator selected four quotes that have interesting connections.

If you use a feed reader, be sure to subscribe to this RSS feed, its a great way to start each day! :-)
