Snow for Sale! Cheap!

Yes, I'm here to tell you that the State of Colorado has snow for sale at very reasonable rates. Since this afternoon, snow has been falling at a rate of 4 inches per hour!!

So, as long as you are willing to cover packing and shipping costs, I stand ready to sell you any amount of snow that you want!

Lilja's Gift Tag

Lilja made L. and I a gift this year that she constructed at her pre-school, Alaya. It was a picture of her hand and footprint placed in a nice frame. We love it a lot. But, we kind of like the tag that was on the present even more. Her teachers (Tessa and Monica) asked her what she wanted to say on the tag and then wrote done everything she said. This is what Lilja had them write:

To: Mama, Miles, Dadda, and Max, Lilja,

I was a baby.

Tessa and Monica.

I love you.

Tape.

From Lilja

We love it!

Tape,

Ken

Merry Christmas

We had a very nice Christmas this year. We went to L.'s parent's house on Christmas Eve and got to see L.'s Aunt Linda (on her father's side) who flew out to Colorado (despite the blizzard) for the holidays. And, we went to L.'s sister's house for Christmas. A very nice time was had by all and I'm sure that I will gain several pounds from all of the holiday treats that I consumed!

The kids had a great time, with Max saying over and over again "This is the best Christmas ever!". He received a RoboReptile from Aunt Linda which really made his day! Lilja received a kitchen from Aunt Linda, which she was very excited about. It needs to be assembled and so she has been asking me "to fix my kitchen" since Christmas Eve. I've got it about 25% assembled and should have it done sometime tonight!

Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas this year!

Cheers!

Made It Through the Snow

Hi,

Just a quick follow-up to my last post: After 2 hours and 45 minutes, I made it safely back to the apartment. Most of that time was spent on South Boulder Road waiting in traffic caused by people whose cars could not handle the snow. When I got to South Boulder Road and 75th street, I saw on the order of 5-7 cars in the right hand lane that were simply abandoned, forcing the two lanes of traffic to merge and turning a normal 10-15 minute drive into one that took hours.

A big hat tip to Mike Kienitz who eight years ago recommended that we buy a Subrau Legacy wagon, which we did, and thus ensured that I made it home that night. I call that car the "little car that can" because it took everything the weather threw at it and just kept moving along. All wheel drive is awesome!

Buried in Snow

CNN isn't lying: Blizzard threatens to bury Colorado because the blizzard IS burying us here in Colorado!

I'm here in my office looking out at the snow and I'm wondering how I'm going to get back home. Unfortunately, the campus isn't closed and I have to give the final for my software engineering class from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. That means, the earliest I'll be able to leave for home is 4 PM. Yuck.

Cross your fingers for me!

My Current Favorite Song

A student forwarded a link to this song and now I can't get it out of my head…

Code Monkey

Other people like this song too, so much so that they created video tributes to it!

Tribute 1

Tribute 2

No wonder Time Magazine named YOU the person of the year. Personally, I think code monkey should have won.

Enjoy,

Something You Don't See Every Day

Here's something you don't see every day: pictures of the space shuttle taking off into space… as seen from space!

(Click on the images to see them at full resolution.)

Last September, a space shuttle launch occured when the International Space Station was positioned overhead... the pictures below were taken through a window of that space station.

These pictures were provided to a friend of L. by Ryan Patterson who works at Lockheed-Martin. The friend forwarded them to L. who forwarded them to me.

Enjoy!

Fallout Shelter Handbook 1962

Now that all of my readers have left (except for my three readers who know what a feed reader is) due to a lack of posts, I thought I would celebrate by posting a pointer to an absolutely hilarious exposé on a Fallout Shelter handbook from 1962.

Enjoy,

Ken

P.S. To follow-up from my previous post, thanks America for an early Christmas gift this year. It was nice to see that not all Americans are asleep at the wheel!
