Republicans are Shameless

Did you hear that Rush Limbaugh, leader of the Republican Party, gave the keynote address at CPAC today?

Did you know that he's completely shameless? Well, he is, because he had this to say about Obama:

"He wants people in fear, angst and crisis, fearing the worst each and every day because that clears the decks for President Obama and his pals to come in with the answers which are abject failures, historically shown and demonstrated. Doesn't matter. They'll have control of it when it's all over. And that's what they want," Limbaugh said.

To accuse Obama of doing what Cheney and Co. have been doing since 9/11 is just over-the-top unbelievable. The government of George Orwell's 1984 would be very proud of Limbaugh today.

The sad part is that no one at the conference noticed this shameless projection and CNN didn't notice either. The reporter at the linked to story above didn't mention what complete horse shit this assertion is or how it perfectly described what the Cheney administration and Fox news has been doing since just after 9/11.

I am truly scared for my country if people like Limbaugh can speak obvious lies and not get called on it.

Excellent Quote by Maugham

"There are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are."

by W. Somerset Maugham.

Turns out he's a funny guy, take a gander at some of his other quotations.

I also liked "Dying is a very dull, dreary affair. And my advice to you is to have nothing whatever to do with it."

Enjoy,

One More iPhone Developer

As of last night, I'm an official iPhone developer, having ponied up my 99 dollars to join Apple's iPhone development program.

At last I can develop a competitor to the iFart app and make millions of dollars!

Note: if you don't like juvenile humor, do NOT click the link in the previous paragraph.

Why We Needed 60 Democratic Senators

Politico has the list of cuts that the democrats have agreed to in order to get the stimulus bill passed next week and, as feared, the forces of ignorance and religion have won again: all of the proposed spending on science has been cut.

Since religious idiots have so much power in congress I will use a religious metaphor to sum up how I feel about this:

Our country will reap what we sow.

Amen

Dave Winer hits the nail on the head:

I think it's the ultimate in hypocrisy to argue that former members of the excecutive branch of the US govt should not be prosecuted for war crimes because it would be looking backward, while our jails are full of people whose only "crime" is that they smoke pot. It's like we have two legal systems, one for the powerful and one for the rest of us. It's so un-American, I don't know why people can't see that.

Kudos! I wish more people cared about the war crimes committed by the Bush administration. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield and all their cronies should spend the rest of their lives in jail for what they did.

Anti-Intellectuals: Please Leave This Country!

Hi,

Two anti-intellectuals in the Senate are up to their usual tricks:

<http://pandasthumb.org/archives/2009/02/science-gets-th.html>

They went through the stimulus bill and identified "useless programs" and decided that most of the funding related to scientific research is useless.

Honestly, these people are too dumb to save and we should revoke their citizenships and deport them. Let them live in a country that hasn't invested in basic R&D for the past 50-60 years and let's see how they like it.

We are surrounded by the benefits of scientific research in this society. To the point that most of these benefits are in the background, unseen and unappreciated by the anti-intellectuals of the world.

Would you like one example? Death by waterborne disease used to be the number one killer in the country just 100 years ago. That's just one of thousands of benefits that science has provided to this country.

The amount of money in the stimulus package devoted to scientific research is paltry (our country is still in eminent danger of losing our lead in science to Europe and Asia even with the funding targeted by these Senators) and should stay in place.

Lets instead remove all of the tax cuts in the bill except for the poor and lower middle class portions of society and then we'll have removed the truly useless programs from the stimulus bill.

Distracting the Masses

I'm glad the Super Bowl has passed us by. Now the masses can stop being distracted by (American) football and can instead be distracted by basketball.

Psst. Don't tell them they're being distracted, it only makes them upset.

Requirements Document for DVD Producers

The parent of a child wants to put a DVD into a DVD player and:

a) have the menu screen immediately appear
b) push play and have the movie immediately start.

That's it.

[I'm looking at you Disney!]
